View the selection criteria for each award category.
Who can nominate
To be eligible for nomination the performances and achievements attained must have occurred between 1 January and 31 December.
Supporting evidence can include:
- competition name and level
- official results, for example:
- final placings or positions
- records and sets achieved
- other achievements
- quality and depth of competition
- significance of achievements in terms of Territory sport
- media clippings.
How the awards are judged
Nominations go through an internal review process to confirm eligibility and are assessed against key criteria. We may move you between categories to most relevant, sometimes meaning you are eligible for multiple awards!
We may contact you for clarifications during this review process, to ensure the submission to the selection panel is the best version.
Nominations are then assessed by an independent panel, comprised of community members with strong knowledge in sport. They are judged fairly, with discussion between panel members encouraged, before voting commences to select finalists and a subsequent winner.
All panel members are required to declare conflict of interest prior to assessment of awards and will be handled accordingly.
Our top tips
- Start your nomination as soon as possible.
- Add your personal details to a draft form so you are in the system. You will then receive reminders to complete your nomination prior to the closing date.
- Clear and concise answers.
- We receive a large number of submissions featuring all the great work our sporting community does. Make sure you are clear with the points you wish to make to ensure you stand out.
- Avoid jargon and acronyms.
- Our selection panel are community sportspeople; however, they may not know the intricacies of your specific sport. Ensure you write out competition titles and acronyms to ensure they understand your content.
- Be specific.
- We want to hear how you (or your nominee) specifically meet the required criteria. Provide evidence and examples where possible.
- Avoid repetition.
- Where possible, try and provide different examples to support your nomination.
- Ensure your answers are relevant.
- Submission data should be relevant to the selection criteria. When drafting your submissions ask yourself, how does this support my application?
- Achievements must be within the calendar year.
- Take advantage of your supporting documentation.
- Were you featured in a news article? Can you provide a letter of recommendation? Attachments provide an opportunity for you to stand out from the rest.
- However, you must ensure attachments adhere to the size restrictions – if they don’t, they will not be assessed and may hinder your application.
- Edit and review.
- Once you submit your nomination it cannot be changed. Make sure to read it carefully prior to submitting to ensure you have met all the criteria.
