Volunteer development
Sport, Recreation and Strategic Infrastructure (SRSI), in collaboration with Community Sport Officers, will partner with peak sporting bodies, active recreation organisations, regional councils and other stakeholders to prioritise the design and implementation of better practice Volunteer development processes, practices and programs.
Our volunteer development programs recognises three broad sport volunteer categories across the organisations who utilise sport volunteers. These are:
- casual volunteer/helper (informal roles assisting with a duty and/or task)
- committed volunteer/helper (formal role taking on a specific duty and/or task across a period of time)
- progressive volunteer/helper (advanced formal role seeking further development and/or leadership opportunities).
Northern Territory Sport Volunteer Development/Education
To support sport and active recreation volunteers across the NT, SRSI will be facilitating workshops and masterclasses for coaches, officials and other key support volunteers. All development/education sessions are free and designed to support three broad sport volunteer categories.
The sessions will provide accessible learning and development programs suitable to the Territory volunteer workforce. Many of the sessions will be available for face to face and online especially for those Territorians that are unable to attended in person.
For the latest Volunteer Development/Education sessions go to the Calendar of events.
Volunteer Development Programs
The primary focus of the Volunteer development programs is to improve the development, recruitment, retention and recognition of sports volunteers.
Volunteer development programs will include an annual assessment of sport and active recreation organisations’ volunteer profile, needs and gaps, that helps inform the design and delivery of promotional, educational and developmental activities. Activities will address National Sporting Organisation accreditation requirements and Volunteering Australia’s national standards.
In recognition of the importance of sport volunteers, the focus will be on supporting the volunteer strategies of peak sporting bodies and active recreation organisations in the Territory through three key volunteer development programs:
- Volunteer Promotion Program - promotion of sport volunteer roles, benefits, resources and achievements.
- Volunteer Support Program - development and delivery of volunteer involvement-related resources and activities.
