Nyinkka Nyunyu Art and Culture Centre to reopen in Tennant Creek
The Nyinkka Nyunyu Art and Culture Centre in Tennant Creek will reopen on 28 April 2026, marking an important milestone for the Warumungu people and the Barkly region.
Following a major redevelopment, the upgraded centre will provide modern gallery, cultural and visitor spaces that support local artists and strengthen Tennant Creek’s role as a cultural destination in the Northern Territory.
The Northern Territory Government has invested $10 million to deliver the redevelopment, ensuring the centre can continue to celebrate Warumungu culture while supporting the region’s creative and tourism economy.
Nyinkka Nyunyu is a significant cultural place for the Warumungu people and a key cultural attraction in the Barkly region.
The centre shares Warumungu stories, knowledge and artistic practice through exhibitions, cultural interpretation and community programs. The redevelopment ensures the centre can continue to present these stories while improving facilities for artists, visitors and the community.
