NTSA Para Futures Camp builds skills, confidence and connection
On 7 December, we hosted the first Northern Territory Sports Academy (NTSA) Para Futures Camp – another important step forward in strengthening Para sport pathways in the Northern Territory.
Delivered by the NTSA Para Unit and supported by a strong network of partners, the full-day camp brought together 14 Para athletes for hands-on learning focused on nutrition, training, recovery and teamwork. More importantly, it created a space where athletes could connect with each other, build confidence and see what Para sport pathways are possible in the Territory.
The camp was designed around the Para Unit’s guiding principles, with group activities encouraging athletes to learn from shared experiences and support one another. From the outset, the emphasis was on inclusion, collaboration and creating a strong sense of belonging.
A dedicated nutrition session helped athletes understand how to fuel their bodies for both competition and recovery, followed by practical food preparation activities that built confidence, independence and everyday life skills. Athletes then took part in a group gym session focused on strength, mobility and activation, with activities adapted to individual needs while maintaining a strong team environment.
Recovery was a key theme throughout the day, with athletes choosing from pool recovery, stretching or foam rolling before coming together for a final reflection session. Athletes shared feedback, reflected on what they had learned and discussed next steps in their individual journeys.
The Para Futures Camp reflects a broader, collaborative approach to Para sport in the Northern Territory – one that brings athletes, families, coaches, sport organisations and partners together from the start. By focusing on connection, flexibility and cultural understanding, the NTSA Para Unit is helping ensure athletes can access meaningful pathways without having to leave the Territory.
With growing athlete participation and increasing interest from sports and partners, the Para Futures Camp marks an important milestone in building a strong, sustainable future for Para sport in the Northern Territory.
The NTSA Para Unit is jointly funded by the Northern Territory Government and Australian Government through Paralympics Australia and the Australian Sports Commission.
