Cor Infinitus Memorial dedicated on the Darwin Esplanade
A new Cor Infinitus Memorial and Reflection Bench has been dedicated on the Darwin Esplanade, providing a permanent place of reflection, dignity and respect for veterans who lost their lives to suicide and the families, friends and communities affected by their loss.
The Northern Territory Government funded the commemorative plinth and plaque, while DPSC's Veterans Engagement and Support team partnered with Cor Infinitus to plan and deliver the dedication ceremony. City of Darwin delivered the surrounding reflection space through its Better Suburbs Program.
Cor Infinitus is a national charity that supports the establishment of memorials across Australia dedicated to those who served our nation and later took their own lives, while promoting suicide prevention and reducing the stigma surrounding mental illness and suicide.
Veterans, families, ex-service organisations, community members and project partners gathered for the dedication ceremony, which included a wreath laying, the Ode to the Fallen, the Last Post and a minute's silence.
Located adjacent to the Darwin Cenotaph and Federation Walk, the memorial features a shaded reflection bench, landscaped pathway and commemorative plinth displaying the Cor Infinitus rosemary emblem.
Darwin is the 22nd community in Australia to establish a Cor Infinitus memorial. The memorial supports remembrance, reflection, suicide prevention and ongoing efforts to reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness and suicide.
